New: At The Hall in SF, cue up some fun.
Designer Craige Walters — known for countless successful San Francisco nightclubs, including Black Cat in the Tenderloin — has in recent years been working on the East Coast and down in Florida. Now, The Hall, a just-opened bar and billiards venue in a formerly “cursed location” near Foreign Cinema in the Mission, marks a return to the Bay Area.

The Hall is the brainchild of three serious pool players — Yuko Takahashi, Modi Shantharam, and Joina Liao — who compete internationally and envisioned a chic space for others like themselves. Their concept of tournament-style slate tables paired with globally inspired bites and creative cocktails comes to life in the lofty, 8,500-square-foot space, complete with a mezzanine.

Walters outfitted the venue with eight pool tables, each illuminated by articulated-arm pendant lights, foldable seating for sideliners, upholstered banquettes for fine dining, and a glossy, full-service bar. For a moody atmosphere, he chose a paint palette of burnt umber for the original pressed-tin ceilings, smoky grays and greens for the walls, and added a polished concrete floor. Custom blown-glass bar lights bring in added style.
“I don’t always play,” Walters admits. “But here, it is even fun to watch.”
